In patients with CKD, the cardiovascular risk is about 700 times higher than in the general population. Structural and functional changes in the arteries are visible very early and the process vascular calcification occurs. The importance of these calcifications is strongly correlated with cardiovascular risk. However, the determinants and mechanisms responsible for vascular calcification remain poorly known and there is currently no specific treatment for these disorders. On the other hand, mortality in patients with end-stage renal failure is very high, affecting one in ten patients each year. It is therefore essential to identify the patients most at risk of dying in order to set up procedures aimed at improving their prognosis. In addition to the non-modifiable risk factors conventionally associated with mortality (age, antecedents), the identification of new markers or risk factors, which may be modifiable, is an important issue in nephrology research.

The applied research axis is coordinated by Dr. Flore Duranton and Dr Angel Argilés. The projects developed include :

  • Study of the variations of the arterial pressure: influence of the climate, association with the survival
  • Metabolomic characterization of patients with CKD

Techniques : cross-sectional analysis, retrospective analysis, survival analysis.
